Even cowboys and cowgirls need to shop, and that’s why Kamloops welcomes teams, business travelers and outdoor adventuring vacationers with great shopping options. Downtown Kamloops is the place to go boutique shopping or hunt for bargains at a plaza. There are several major malls, including one near McArthur Island Park on the north shore and another in the upscale Aberdeen area. Power shoppers may also rest easy knowing that Kamloops has its fair share of 'Big Box' stores to explore.
Victoria Street is the main street of Kamloops, and it runs parallel to the South Thompson River and a sizable stretch of the Rivers Trail in the City Centre real estate neighbourhood. Shoppers may stroll Victoria Street and peruse for everything from men’s, ladies and children’s shoes and fashions, bike gear, comics, and books. There are lots of neat cafes, restaurants and pubs to take a break at as well as culture, history and entertainment to explore at the Art Gallery, Public Library and Paramount Theatre.
'Big Box' Shopping
Hillside Shopping Area
Tucked between Thompson Rivers University’s Kamloops campus and the eastern tip of Kenna Cartwright Park is some serious ‘big box’ shopping on Hillside Drive, located in the South Gate area of the City Centre real estate neighbourhood. Home Depot, Michaels and Pier 1 Imports provide do-it-yourselfers, creative buffs and self-styled interior decorators with lots of options for getting the job done. Busy-bees can always grab lunch at Montana’s restaurant once they have everything for getting down to work and before popping into the Wal-Mart.
Great views of the Thompson River Valley as well as the Monashee and Clearwater mountains from Aberdeen Mall’s perch in the Aberdeen/Mount Dufferin real estate neighbourhood may prove a little distracting at first. However, Aberdeen Mall’s close to 100 stores, including The Bay, SportChek and Sears, should bring every shopper’s mind clearly back into focus once inside. Located on the West Trans Canada Highway, the Aberdeen Mall is conveniently positioned right across from the Tourism Kamloops Visitor Centre and a wealth of information about places to explore while in Kamloops.
North Hills Shopping Centre
Northills Shopping Centre is perfectly located for anyone who is watching or taking part in a tournament or sporting event at McArthur Island Park. Located on Tranquille Road in the North Shore/Batchelor Heights real estate neighbourhood, the Northills Shopping Centre has an Extra Foods, Mark’s Work Wearhouse, Shoppers Drug Mart, and a Starbucks. Teams can catch a bite to eat at Cap’N Sharky’s Seafood, 2 for 1 Pizza or the Senor Froggy Mexican restaurant if there is any time to spare in-between games.
Sahali Centre Mall
Sahali Centre Mall is centrally-located in the heart of the Sahali area of the City Centre real estate neighbourhood on Columbia Street West. The mall’s pharmacy and Canada Post Outlet are convenient for business and leisure travelers who stay at the several hotels and motels along Columbia Street. Safeway, Zellers and the Dollar Giant are the mall’s three major tenants, but there are also a few smaller stores inside.
Aberdeen Village Centre
As if Aberdeen Mall isn’t enough, the Aberdeen Village Centre right next door on Hillside Drive provides access to more great shopping. Chapters, Mark’s Work Wearhouse and Moores are three of this plaza’s major tenants to visit, and a stop at Quiznos Subs to re-energize might be a wise idea. Both the Aberdeen Village Centre and Aberdeen Mall are visible from several hotels and motels located in the more upscale Rogers Way area of Kamloops within the Aberdeen/Mount Dufferin real estate neighbourhood.
Columbia Place Shopping Centre
The Columbia Place Shopping Centre is a cluster of stores located on Summit Drive in the Sahali area of the City Centre real estate neighbourhood in Kamloops. Addition Elle and Penningtons are great places to browse for ladies clothing and plus-size fashions before heading next door to the Urban Barn for living room, dining room, kitchen, or bedroom furniture and accessories. Boston Pizza and a Triple O’s White Spot across the street are nice restaurants to eat at in-between shopping sprees.
Lansdowne Village plaza is located in downtown Kamloops in the City Centre real estate neighbourhood on Lansdowne Street. London Drugs, a BC Liquor Store and the Senor Froggy Mexican restaurant are three major tenants, and there is lots of neat shopping to explore across the street at stores such as Lululemon and Doctor Love. The City of Kamloops’ downtown bus terminal is located right next door to Lansdowne Village which makes it a perfect place to begin a shopping trip before walking up to Victoria Street to explore the downtown shopping scene.
